Students at Bridgwater College Academy enjoy employer mock interviews

Feb 17, 2017

Employers from across the region (and from national and multi-national organisation) turned up at Bridgwater College Academy on Friday 2 February to put the Year 11 students through their interview paces.

Working with the school and the Bridgwater Education Trust (BET), employers from a wealth of organisations such as; DHL, Morrison's, EDF Energy, Bridgwater & Taunton College, Jobcentre Plus, One Step Foundation, the Army, Poolbridge Accountancy Ltd as well as STEM Ambassadors, volunteered their time to give students a first-hand understanding of what an interview for work feels like. Although scary at first this type of exercise is invaluable for teaching students what to expect when they leave school. A vital preparation tool!

Continuing their work with five Bridgwater secondary schools, BET and CSW Group- who recruit and co-ordinate employers - were delighted with the response received from the employers who took part.

A BET spokesperson said "The students have been of an exceptional standard today; some even asked permission wear a suit rather than school uniform, so that they felt properly prepared. It has given us all a sense of confidence in the future of our workforce when we meet and interview young people who have such a strong work ethic. In addition, i would like to thank all of the employers who so generously gave up their time to undertake today's event."

In addition to career events, the Trust also recruits mentors who undertake 1:1 work with students. This provides students with the opportunity to speak to an adult already in the world of work with whom they can discuss their ideas and plans for the future.

Due to the success of the scheme, the Trust is currently recruiting mentors - if you are interested in this rewarding opportunity, please contact the BET Co-ordinator, Hilary Adams:
